Water~Stone Review is an annual, national review published by the Graduate School of Liberal Studies at Hamline University. It publishes work in all genres as well as essay/reviews and writers' interviews. Features include two biennial contests - the Jane Kenyon Poetry Prize and the Brenda Ueland Prose Prize - judged by nationally known writers and editors such as Donald Hall, Charles Baxter, Robert Olen Butler, Jane Hirshfield, Elizabeth Alexander, and Naomi Shihab Nye.

An annual Meridel Le Sueur Essay honors Le Sueur's focus on social, political, and communal concerns. Writers of this essay have included Linda Hogan, Judith Ortiz Cofer, Scott Russell Sanders, Eavan Boland, Carol Bly, John Edgar Wideman, and Terry Tempest Williams.
